Possible Grid change

I am thinking of changing the way the grid works buy adding a PageIndexChanged Event. I would like to know everyones opinion

This will break everybody code , but I think it will pay off in the long run.

The benefits of the change are:

- You will be able to use two grids with paging on one page.(only possible today with hacks)

- the code will be more similar to the one used on the regular gridview.

- the grid will problably work better with timers

The downside:

- you will have to change your code to make the grid work again.

Right now its just a thougth ..not even sure its possible, but I want to give a try if everybody its ok with it.

Box net Manager screencast

Here is a short screencast where I show the box.net manager working.
If you don't have a box.net account and don't want to create one ..this is your chance to see the interface.
I have somethings on my TODO list...but the application is really stable now
Here is my list
  1. Implement the share method of the API
  2. Enchance the upload experience
The download Folder menu is something I am really proud of since there isn't a method in the api to do that.
Disclaimer: I do not work for box.net and no file is ever copied to my site all interactions are done using the box.net api.

Box net Manager

Do you have a box.net account? Box.net is an online file storage that gives you 1 gb of free space for you to keep your files.
Since box.net has an api to help manage files I decided to write a simple application to help me manage my files using my TreePane control.
You can see the application here . If you don't have a box.net account you can create one. I am still deciding if I am going to release this code as open source.

New release coming

Afer a while a new release of the ExtExtenderControls is about to come out. This release will be the first to have dlls for both the 2.0 and the 3.5 framework and its mostly a bug fix release with lots of patches contributed by the community.
I sill have to see how I am going to compile for both frameworks without a problem.
The testsite is going to be included in the release , but its only for the 3.5 framework with all sql querys replaced with LINQ, but you can still look at the source and see how things are done.

ExtJsExtenders script size

Lots of people have contacted me worried about the size of the ExtJs javascript library (about 500kb). Yes its a big size, but you can reduce it to about 150 kb using Gzip.
Read more here to know how to gzip your pages even without access to IIs configuration.

ExtJsExtender x Coolite - part 2

In the last I blogged about coolite studio advantages over ExtJsExtender controls now I am going to talk about the ExtJsExtenders advantage
  1. Has more controls that coolite ( coolite does not support the grid)
  2. Free and open source
One of the advantages of using the asp.net ajax library is that it allows you to develop a control without mixing javascript with C# (or whatever server-side language) , and that makes it easier to write, debug and maintain the code.

New version comming out...

There is a new version of the ExtjsExtenderControls about to be released. So if you have time and you are brave enough you can get the source-code and see if everything is working.
Post your bug and suggestions here. If you have any patch post it at codeplex.
The big news about the next release its that it will allow the grid to be databound to any object that implements the IEnumerable interface ..so test away.

Happy hollydays

Another year is ending and this time I have news.
I am leaving my current job and facing a new challenge in my life.
This will probably mean that I will be dedicating less time to my codeplex project..
so its the project dead? well that's up to you . Lots of people asked me to become developers and I have always accepted then , but none of then (except dimitry) gave any contribution.
So, if anyone wants to be a developer just contact me.
Happy Hollidays
